First Floor
The first floor will be largely unchanged in terms of layout. The bulk of our work on the first floor so far has been painting, repairing trim, and replacing fixtures. The major project is going to be the kitchen, which will get a complete overhaul down the road. The way it's designed now, there's very little counter space and cabinetry. In fact, right now our pantry is in the closet in the hallway. We're hoping that switching the placement of the range and refrigerator will improve the workflow and create more usable counter space.

Renovated Layout
The second floor will be very different from its previous design. All of the dotted lines on the original layout are walls that we've moved. Rather than having an enormous master bedroom with limited closet space and a tiny laundry closet tucked into the hallway, we decided to turn the front half of the house into more of a master suite. After the renovation, we'll have a bedroom, bathroom, and closets at the front of the house that can be closed off from the back (guest) part of the house. The laundry room is accessible through the hallway or our bathroom, and is much more user-friendly because of its larger size and built-in storage for linens, cleaning supplies, etc. The office and guest bathroom will become slightly smaller after the renovation, but that's a small price to pay for such improved use of space on the rest of the floor. The guest bedroom will be more or less the same, other than paint and decor tweaks.
